25th November 1969: Sam leaps into himself at the age of sixteen, living on his parents’ ranch in Elk Ridge, Indiana. He is immediately overcome with emotion at the reunion with his family, particularly with his father, who is destined to suffer a fatal heart attack, and his younger sister, Katey, whose future sees her doomed to elope and marry an alcoholic wife-beater. Al arrives and informs his friend that his mission is to ensure that Elk Ridge basketball team win their next game against Baileyville – a match they originally lost due to a showdown between Sam and his nemesis ‘No Nose’ Pruitt, and which will prove to be a turning point in many of the players’ lives. When history is righted Sam will leap – however, now that he has come home, Sam doesn’t want to leave. To Al’s dismay, Sam breaks the rules by warning his father and sister of their destinies; then, when his brother, Tom, returns on leave from the army, Sam sees a way to prevent his death in Vietnam…
